Mark Zuckerberg Unveils ‘Oculus Go’, A Lightweight And Affordable VR Headset
By Dorothy Tan, 12 Oct 2017
While there has been a lot of talk about virtual reality in recent years, it is still not exactly mainstream—a large part of that has to do with the high prices of existing VR headsets.
This is set to change after Mark Zuckerberg unveils the brand new ‘Oculus Go’ headset at the Oculus Connect 4 event at San Jose just hours ago—according to the Facebook founder, this is the “most accessible VR headset yet.”
Retailing at just US$199, it is equipped with features that are very similar to the ones found on the Oculus Rift and Gear VR, including a wide field-of-view with reduced glare—it has been marketed as the first “standalone product” from the VR tech brand, and has been described as the “easiest way to jump into VR.”
Lightweight and comfortable to wear, users can don it to watch movies, play games or just to hang out with friends in virtual reality—you can expect better visual clarity and a subdued screen door effect, thanks to its high-resolution fast-switch LCD screen.
Head over to the Oculus blog, or watch the video below, to find out more about this relatively affordable VR headset—it is expected to ship in November 2017.
