Researchers have successfully trained a computer to create and animate The Flintstones-inspired cartoons based on textual direction, and it might seriously make your ‘Bedrock’.
Created by the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2), the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Washington, the AI known as ‘Composition, Retrieval and Fusion Network’ (Craft) was first fed with 25,000 annotated videos of the classic animation to learn how the original clips relate with the provided notes.
From the database, ‘Craft’ generates animations corresponding to new scripts its creators might provide it with.
Seeing that the training set contains clips that last only about three seconds each, the end results—though a little glitchy—are pretty impressive.
Soon, AI-generated cartoons could become part of your future, and animation studios might no longer need to accommodate groups of people.
