The term “Florida Man” has rarely been tied with good news, and refers to a stereotype of males committing crimes and being involved in bizarre incidences in the state. Now, US president Donald Trump has revealed that he is moving to Florida, which has led to the internet spiralling into a frenzy.
For context, “Florida Man” was a popular meme that saw people looking up their own birthdates along with the phrase to find out what made headlines that day. The phenomenon was inspired by the enormous catalog of unusual events that have taken place in Florida.
An example would be when a Florida man was arrested for sexually assaulting an Olaf toy at Target. Another odd event in the state happened when a Florida man jumped off a surfboard and landed on a shark. These examples showcase a small fraction of what could entail when a “Florida Man” is involved.
On Thursday, Trump announced on Twitter that he would be leaving his home in New York and moving to Florida as his “permanent residence.” The president posted a series of heartfelt tweets declaring his transfer to his new home.
The New York Times reports that Trump filed a “declaration of domicile” documents confirming his new “principle home” to be his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Now that Trump is going to be officially a “Florida Man,” Twitter users can’t help but come up with memes relating to the news.
