IKEA Creates Unusual Object It Believes Could Be Its ‘Most Instagrammed Product’
By Izza Sofia, 17 Jan 2020
IKEA Belgium has created a rather unusual product called the MÜPOLASH.
Together with creative agency Ogilvy Social.Lab, the company decided to mash its “most Instagrammable products” such as the mug, pot, lamp and shelf to form this new object.
The Swedish furniture retailer, however, did not explain what exactly it would be used for. The term “MÜPOLASH” is actually a combination of names of the household products mentioned above.
The idea behind this new object is that if IKEA’s mugs, pots, lamps and shelves are getting a lot of traction, then the MÜPOLASH should be the “most Instagrammable thing ever made.” Basically, this product is designed just for the “likes.”
To ensure that this product garners a lot of attention, the MÜPOLASH is painted in white, the “most Instagrammable color.” The product is 3D-printed from 100-percent biodegradable materials.
MÜPOLASH is currently on display at the Design Museum of Gent. IKEA has also created four other MÜPOLASHes, and to get your hands on one, all you need to do is to use the MÜPOLASH AR Instagram filter and capture a nice shot of the product in your home.
Then, tag @IKEAbelgium with the hashtags ‘#mijnIKEA’ and ‘#monIKEA’. Those with the best shots will walk away with one of these limited-edition pieces.
